BIOFEEDBACK
Biofeedback is a method of consciously controlling a body function that
is normally regulated by the body. During biofeedback sessions,
sensors that are connected to a monitoring device will be attached to
your body. The therapist will teach you the physical and mental
exercises that can help you improve your body's functions (i.e. tension,
temperature, movement, blood pressure). The results are displayed
on the monitor while you learn how to control that function.
Electromyography (EMG) is one type of biofeedback used to measure the
muscle tension while the patient practices relaxation or activation
techniques. Biofeedback requires several sessions in order to
build your skills. Most people can be successful at biofeedback by
the time they complete 10 to 12 sessions.
